HOW-TO: Create an account and use the WCEA App

    There is always room to grow in every profession. Nursing and Midwifery is no exception that is why the N&MC made the good move to introduce CPD, which means Continuing Professional Development. This term, in our context, is used to describe the activities that nurses and midwives would have to undertake to improve or develop their abilities.

Currently, every nurse or midwife in Ghana is required to submit some number of points depending on their grade or educational qualification in order to renew their PIN/AIN yearly. This guide will walk you through creating an account on the World Continuing Education Alliance (WCEA) App via N&MC Ghana and taking courses to enable you attain points for your license renewals. So without further ado, let's begin!

Creating An Account

The first step in getting your account is to CLICK HERE and fill the required data which include;

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email
  • Mobile Phone Number
  • PIN Number (found on card)
  • Registration Number (found on card)
  • Your area of practice
  • Organization Name (Your school or Agency should work)
  • Others (including areas you would like to take CPD courses on).

After a successful registration, you should receive an email stating your CPD registration has been received, and another one when your WCEA CPD Account has been created (This could take several hours so exercise patience). That E-Mail should contain your username and temporary password for the WCEA Mobile Application.

The WCEA App

At this point, you proceed to install the app from the Play Store or App Store. This is what the app icon looks like;

There should be a button and QR code in the latter E-Mail you received which directs you to the store to get the app. After installation, launch the app and enter the login credentials found in the E-Mail you received.

The WCEA App forbids taking screenshots, for the purpose of this guide, I'm going to stick to the basics with a few pictures.

Login

After a successful login, you'll be required to change your password. Do so, but try to use something you'll remember. NB: In case you forget your username or password, you can recover them from the login activity (screen).

Home

If you've completed this step, congratulations! You should see the Main Activity or home screen now. It contains a bottom navigation menu with buttons for search, profile, wallet, community and certificates. Recommended courses can also be found on this screen.

Courses

We've seen the recommended courses displayed in the image above. To access all available courses, tap on the 'View All' button at the bottom of the 'Recommended Courses' cardview. Tap on a course to get access.

Before you can take any course, you need to download it first, it is light weight so it shouldn't consume too much data bundle. Tap on the 'Download' button to begin download. After download, you should see a 'Take Course' and 'Take Exam' buttons. If you can't see the 'Take Exam' button, the course probably won't offer you any points after completion. You can still take the course for your own professional development.

To find your downloaded courses, tap on the drawable that looks like a wallet, labeled 2 in the picture of the home screen. You can take those courses even if you are offline. Cool right?!

After taking the exam from the courses, you'd need to download your certificates to upload them on the N&MC App for your PIN/AIN renewal. Hence, tap on the drawable that looks like a graduation hat, labeled 3 in the picture of the home screen.

There are two forms of download you can do here. As indicated in the picture above, the 'Download' button labeled A is used to download a PDF file that contains the topics of the courses you've taken and the scores. It puts everything together here. Example;

But you can tap on the individual topics shown on that screen to get the cert for only that course. Example;

This is where we end the guide, we wish you well as you take courses to develop your skills and abilities in the noble profession.
