HOW-TO: Renew N&MC Ghana PIN/AIN from home - 2022

If you’ve ever been to a branch of the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana (N&MC) and got humiliated for whatever you went there to do, you’ll feel really hesitant to visit them again, won’t you?

I have never been in that position but I have seen two ladies on different occasions who practically wept due to humiliation at the Tamale branch. And to be honest, I am not the only witness to this, there are several others. We won't even talk about the corruption at the various offices. I in particular, was forced to pay GHc 50 in order to get my card renewed in two days at the N&MC Ayiduase (KEO) office because I work in a village and returning a week after for the card wasn't an option. I don't think I'll ever forget how I felt, having to sleep over in Kumasi when I wasn't even prepared for it since I was told over a phone call by the same office that the renewal was instant. Several others who didn't have the CPD certs had to pay GHc 20 each to get the renewal done.

How I wish every single processes there could be done online, actually, I was kind of wondering why the regulatory body after decades of being in existence, has not digitized some of their processes. For example PIN and AIN renewals. Well, that has been done.

As of February 2021, the process hasn't been fully digitized though. After the online payment, you'd have to visit any regional branch of the N&MC to acquire the NEW PIN/AIN Card which has a 5 year validity period instead of the 3 year term. We can however be confident that from 2022, we wouldn't be required to visit a branch to renew our PIN/AINs. How wonderful!

UPDATE 05/02/2022

Just like I said last year, I'm glad to announce that I have been able to renew my PIN for 2022 without having to visit any N&MC office (Got the SMS from N&MC yesterday, I scanned my card using the tellitnurse app and it was really active). You must however visit an office if you don't have the new card which has 5 year validity period. Let's see how you can renew your AIN/PIN from the comfort of your home.

Note: Renewal via the app can take sometime so exercise patience after you've done your part.

In this guide, we’ll look at how to renew your PIN or AIN with the N&MC android App, the app is also available for IOS users on the appstore. To download the N&MC app, click the download button below. You may also check the validity of your card using the tellitnurse android application found on playstore https://goto.tellitnurse.com/app

How to Sign Up

  • Tap “Continue” when you first launch the App.
  • Tap on “Create an account”.
  • In the next activity (screen), you’ll have to verify your details after which, tap “Next”. Enter the following details;

    • Registration Number: Enter your registration number as stated on your N&MC certificate/AIN. e.g.: NAP2783
    • PIN/AIN: You need code on the N&MC card given you. e.g.: 16KL43119008
    • Your Full Name.
  • Now, you’ll want to type the following details to create your account.

    • Username: I assume you have a Facebook account so you know what a username is.
    • Password: A strong password contain both letters, numbers and symbol. Concerning the letters, you should use both lower and upper cases. Yet, it can be as simple as Jenelle@95.com or Fred@23.in but write it somewhere so you don't lose if you forget.
It is difficult to recover your password from the app once you forget.

    • Email: Enter your email address here e.g.: admin@tellitnurse.com
    • Phone number: Provide a valid phone number.
  • Next, set your three recovery questions, you'll be given 9 questions in all to select and answer 3. You MUST type answers that are true (that you can remember) because you’ll be asked these questions when you forget your password and wants to recover it. Some Apps will ask too if they detect unusual activity on your account. After this step, your account should be created.

Renewing Your PIN/AIN

If your account has been created successfully, congrats. You'll be taken to the dashboard where you can renew your PIN/AIN. As soon as your PIN/AIN expires, you'll be notified right on the dashboard, all you have to do is tap on the button that says "Your renewal is overdue" to proceed with payment.

Uploading CPD Certs

The first step here is to upload your N&MC CPD certificates. These are the certs you had when you completed courses on the WCEA app and took exams. So head out to the button with the 'graduation hat' (the last one on the WCEA app), and download your certificates but I think it better to get the PDF document which contain the courses you've taken and their respective points. Tap on the 'Download' button at the top of the activity that launches when you tapped on the graduation hat to get it.
  • Tap CPD Docs.
  • Tap Upload File.
  • Tap Allow to give the application access to your storage device.
  • Browse to locate relevant CPD document, select the file and tap Upload.
  • Tap the file name to view it, or tap the delete icon to delete the file (in case you got the wrong one).

Conclusion

Well, just as mentioned earlier, You'd NEED to visit any of the N&MC regional offices to collect your new PIN/AIN card which is valid for five years. This will replace the three-year validity card.
After successfully completing the payment process, you will receive an SMS acknowledging receipt to payment. Please note that you will be required to renew your PIN/AIN ONLINE by 31st January each year.
