Steps
PRE-OPERATIVE MANAGEMENT:
1. Establish rapport (refer steps)
2. Reinforce all explanation given by Obstetrician, expressing them in simply terms
3. Ensure all investigation all carried out
4. Arrange for cross matched blood to be ready for use
5. Inform client briefly about how the operating room would look like and the basic equipment that would be used
6. Encourage client companion to be with her during surgery where necessary
7. Assess vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure) and record
8. Ensure client maintain nil per os if surgery will be done under general anaesthesia
9. Encourage client to take in light sips of nourishing fluids in case local anaesthesia will be used
10. Pass urethral catheter where necessary
11. Shave and clean client according to hospital protocol
12. Remove any artificial appliances such as dentures, earrings, bangles etc.
13. Change clothing into theatre gown
