Durbar is a formal community gathering where the RCPN facilitates the discussion of issues concerning mental health in the community. This enables information dissemination, consensus building and education on issues of importance to the community.

Steps
1. Determine the topic and set objectives
2. Conduct community entry
3. Contact community leaders
4. Brief leaders on the objectives of the durbar
5. Draw programme and assign responsibilities with community leaders
6. Arrange venue, date, and time in consultation with community leaders, taking into consideration convenient time to participants
7. Discuss with community leaders how durbar shall be announced, e.g. by gong-gong beating
8. Ensure that announcement of the durbar is carried out in good time
9. If there is cancellation of the durbar, ensure that is announced in good time
10. Ensure the health team is punctual to the durbar
11. Ensure that community leaders are present
12. Ensure participation of men, women, and vulnerable groups
13. Inform and educate community members on the objectives of the durbar
14. Allow everybody to participate in the discussions
15. Ensure that one person talks at a time
16. Give a summary of issues discussed and the decisions taken at the durbar ground
17. Discuss outcome of the durbar with the community leaders
18. Write report on the outcome of the debar to the community leaders
19. Document the findings in your report book
20. Share your contact with the participants and location of the mental health unit
21. Conduct any follow-up activities
