This is a form of psychotherapy where the RCPN assists a group of clients facing related psychological problems to develop new coping skills and mechanisms in solving their challenges.

Steps
1. Prepare an agenda/identify a relevant topic for discussion
2. Prepare a list of participants in the group session
3. Establish rapport (refer to procedure) and explain procedure to participants
4. Ensure participants have taken their medication, meals and are well groomed
5. Arrange chairs (seats) according to their desired pattern (circular/horse shoe)
6. Receive participants to the session
7. Identify a recorder among participants for the session
8. Ask participants to introduce themselves
9. Discuss with participants the goals of the session
10. Explain to participants the ground rules of the therapy
11. Initiate and direct the discussion
12. Observe and involve all participants in the discussion
13. Identify and review conflicts if any and help participants to resolve them
14. Summarize with the participants what has been done for the day
15. Establish date, time and venue for the next session
16. the session, arrange for departure of participants and thank them
17. Document the procedure and any observations made in the report book
