Steps
1. Establish rapport (refer steps)
2. Explain procedure to client (refer steps)
3. Provide privacy and ensure client assume desired position
4. Explain to client the need to attend antenatal clinic and procedures involved
5. Enquire how client maintains personal and environmental hygiene
6. Educate client to maintain hair hygiene as often as possible
7. Educate client to maintain oral hygiene; brush teeth twice daily
8. Counsel client on the need to bath with adequate water and soap at least once a day
9. Counsel client on the importance of keeping the finger and toe nails short (if possible) and clean
10. Teach client how to care for her perineum
11. Counsel client to wear clean loose cotton clothes, underwear, low and well-fitting footwear
12. Teach client on the importance of good ventilation and lighting in her room
13. Teach client the importance of sleeping under treated mosquito net
14. Ask client about her support person at home
15. Educate client on the need to maintain a clean environment
16. Encourage client to ask questions and give appropriate answers
17. Emphasize the need for client to adhere to the information given
18. Express appreciation of client for her cooperation
19. Record and report all information in the Maternal and Child Health Book (Manual or Electronic)
