Objectives
By the end of this lecture, the student should be able to:
- Enumerate the causes of unconsciousness
- Explain the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnoses & medical interventions for the unconscious patient
- List and explain problems the unconscious patient is at risk for
- Assess and score accurately patient with altered level of consciousness using the Glasgow coma scale
- Plan nursing care using the nursing process for the unconscious patient
